Budget airline British Midlands International (bmi) has put together a few ideas for holidaymakers wishing to get away for New Year’s Eve this winter.

One destination the carrier suggested was the popular North African country of Morocco, where New Year’s revellers can take a camel ride

out into the desert and celebrate the turning of the year with Berber drumming and a feast of cous cous and roasted lamb. Cheap flights to Morocco are provided by bmi from London Heathrow, and depart for Marrakesh five times per week.

Another option proposed by the airline was the chic French city of Nice, where the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice performs a celebratory concert each year on New Year’s Eve. Many of the city’s renowned seafood restaurants and other culinary venues will be celebrating the occasion with special meals and a variety of events. Regular cheap flights to Nice are available from bmi and a range of other carriers, departing from London Heathrow and regional UK airports.

Other ideas put forward by bmi include Red Square in Moscow, where travellers can join thousands of Russian party goers to celebrate the New Year, and also the Swiss city of Basel. Basel celebrates the New Year each December with a spectacular fireworks display over the Rhine. The Swiss celebrations also include a performance from the city’s brass band and a special service held on the Münsterplatz.

A concert is also held at the Stadt-Casino Basel each year in the city, to help revellers ring in the New Year with style.
